The National University of Mongolia is pleased to initiate an annual lecture in Mongolian studies in memory of Owen Lattimore (1900-1989), a distinguished scholar of Mongolian and Central Asian studies and a great friend of the Mongols and Mongolia.
To promote Mongolian studies and to bridge the gap between academia and policymaking world in Mongolia, the annual lecture aims to bring distinguished international scholars and speakers to the National University of Mongolia to discuss latest researches in Mongolian studies and as well as issues of national significance.
The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Nicola Di Cosmo, the Luce Foundation Professor in East Asian Studies in the School of Historical Studies at Institute for Advanced Study, on the topic of “Owen Lattimore, Climate, and the Rise of the Mongol Empire: Environmental Determinism or Resource Dependence?”
The lecture will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 5:30 PM in the Round Hall of the National University of Mongolia.
