WASEDA University, established in 1882, has 13 faculties covering 22 research areas. 56,000 students in total and 4,000 foreign students are learning together on campus.

September admission is available for the Social of Political Science and Economics / School of Humanities and Social Sciences / School of Culture, Media and Society / School of Commerce / School of Fundamental, Creative, Advanced Science and Engineering and School of Social Sciences.

September admission for School of Law, School of Education, School of Human Sciences and School of Sports Sciences are not available.

The program lasts from September 2014 to February 2015 Or from September 2014 to July 2015.

1. Qualification

  • At the time of application, students must be enrolled as undergraduate students at universities with exchange agreements with Waseda University.
  • Students must be continuously enrolled as undergraduate students until the end of the exchange study period at Waseda University.  Faculty members and research assistants are not eligible to apply.
  • Students demonstrating excellent academic and personal records at their universities.
  • Students having strong motivation as well as a clear study plan in any field available at Waseda University and who are likely to benefit from study in Japan.
  • Students must have completed at least 12 years of school education or the equivalent in a country other than Japan.

2. Requirements

For application to the undergraduate schools listed below, one of the following is required: Level 1(N1) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, or a minimum score of 220 on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU).

  • School of Law
  • School of Education
  • School of Commerce
  • School of Social Sciences
  • School of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • School of Culture, Media and Society
  • School of Human Sciences (Located in Tokorozawa Campus in Saitama-ken)
  • School of Sports Sciences (Located in Tokorozawa Campus in Saitama-ken)

For application to the undergraduate schools listed below, one of the following is required:

  • Level 1(N1) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, a minimum score of 220 on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), TOEFL 550 (CBT 213, iBT 80) or IELTS 6.0.
  • School of Political Science & Economics

For application to the undergraduate schools listed below, one of the following is required: 

In adidition to have a minimum GPA of 3.00 out of a 4.0 scale, belong to the same major field at Waseda, and have completed at least 2 years at their home university before they start the program at Waseda.

  • Level 1(N1) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, a minimum score of 220 on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), TOEFL 550 (CBT 213, iBT 80) or IELTS 6.0 (English program starts in September 2014).

  • School of Fundamental Science and Engineering
  • School of Creative Science and Engineering
  • School of Advanced Science and Engineering

Japanese Language Program, offered by the Center for Japanese Language at Waseda University, is a one-year program to study Japanese language intensively. The classes have Waseda International students from all over the world. More than 360 Waseda-student volunteers join the Japanese classes to give extra language support. For the further information regarding course registration, please refer to;

Accommodation

Students who applied for the dormitory of Waseda University will likely receive a room in one of the Waseda University dormitories for international students located near campus. Some students choose to live in apartments, which must be arranged independently. Students also have the option of participating in a homestay.

Accommodation assignments will be made only once by the Center for International Education upon receiving student requests as indicated in the Housing Application form. Accommodation changes requested at a later date will not be accepted. Students wishing to move out of the dormitory will be responsible for finding new accommodation. The Housing Application form will be updated on the website and be announced to the partner universities via Pre-departure packet.

 Living Expenses

In order to live in Tokyo as an international student and study at a university, expenses other than tuition fees will be incurred. These include rent, electricity, transportation, food, books and other such expenses. The following estimate of expenses is an approximate total amount. Actual expenses vary by individual. Minimum living expense for one year: 1,000,000 – 1,200,000JPY which is about 13,000 – 16,000USD(as of October 2012).

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) is an independent administrative institution established under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho).
