DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Programme Planning and Budget Division (PPBD) carries-out the functions necessary to secure the resources required for the financing of the mandated programmes and activities of the Secretariat and works to improve management of the utilization of those resources.
Responsibilities:
The individual contractor will support PPBD by carrying out the following functions:
Budget preparation and review:
Review, analyses and assists in the finalization of cost estimates and budget proposals, in terms of staff and non-staff requirements from (a) Departments/offices at Headquarters and in the field, including programmatic aspects; (b) ensure compliance with the Strategic Framework and other legislative mandates
Assist managers in the elaboration of resource requirements for budget submissions
Review each budget proposal to ensure that budget levels are met within the individual office or across offices.
Review each budget submission to ensure sufficient justification for the level of resources proposed and a clear explanation of underlying assumptions for resource changes, ensuring that there is a consistent and cohesive approach across the budget fascicles.
Prepare a meaningful consolidation and summary of the related improvements, changes and initiatives reflected in the proposals.
Assist in various research and coordination related tasks
Qualifications:
Work on this project will provide hands-on experience with financial reporting and budget submission processes and operations of many groups across the United Nations. The successful candidate will:
Have a first level university degree.
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of at least one other UN working language is an advantage.
Have experience editing and preparing summaries on budget-related matters.
Have experience in supporting and servicing of intergovernmental bodies.
Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
