For the eight edition of “UB Impulse: Expert talks on Quality Growth” on December 01, 2015, the School of International Relations and Public Administarion (SIRPA), the National University of Mongolia (NUM) welcomed Prof. Dr. Mike Hardy CMG OBE FRSA in cooperation with the Integrated Mineral Resource Initiative of the GIZ. Professor Mike Hardy is the Executive Director of the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University.
The event started with inaugural remarks by Prof. Dr. h. C. Stefan Hanselmann, Director of GIZ IMRI and Prof. Dr. BattulgaS, Director of SIRPA both highlighted the importance of trust in society as it is one of the fundamental foundations for economic growth and development as well as security and prosperity,
The subsequent talk given by Prof. Dr. Mike Hardy on the topic of “Trust in society and its relevance for socio-economic development” further elaborated the concept of trust, the importance of trust in institutions and in society, also the ways to build trust in society. Professor also mentioned that there is a frequent pattern in former Soviet states in where people lack of trust in institutions despite having high level of trust in people in general. He also pointed out that higher trust tends to create the opportunity of faster innovation.
The talk was followed by an open discussion session, hosted by well-known economist and columnist Jargalsaikan D (DeFacto) who raised interesting questions on the concept of trust.
The audience of UB Impulse-8 was greater than ever before which resulted some participants were actually had to stand out to attend in this event. The participants were over 250 people consisted of Professor and teachers of the Schools of NUM, the Research department of Parliament House of Mongolia, Academy of Management, the Mayor’s office of Ulaanbaatar city, Bayanzurkh district, Law Enforcement University, Etugen University, Institute of Finance and Economic, journalists, the representatives from international organizations, private entities, non-government organizations, and Labor Union of Mongolia.
The audience of the event asked various questions especially on how to build trust in society. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Mike Hardy shared his first impression on traffic of Ulaanbaatar as he arrived in Ulaanbaatar city and explained its connection with the concept of trust which was a quite interesting topic for audience.
At last, the SIRPA of NUM is very grateful to have Prof. Dr. Mike Hardy as our distinguished guest speaker and hopes to host another inspiring event very soon.
