ANNOUNCEMENT 2014-2015 OYU TOLGOI INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

oyutolgoiOyu Tolgoi encourages and strongly values education, development and the pursuit of excellence. As per the Investment Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding between Oyu Tolgoi LLC and the Ministry of Education of Culture and Science on professional training and education, Oyu Tolgoi LLC has established a scholarship program for assisting in the education of Mongolian nationals.

Oyu Tolgoi scholarship program is designed to financially assist selected applicants in obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees from accredited academic institutions of higher learning in fields related to the mining industry.

We will offer 6 international scholarships to study at the University of British Columbia, Canada and Curtin University, Australia commencing in August 2014.

Scholarship recipients will receive following benefits:

  • Application fee
  • Tuition fee
  • Contribution to purchase of study  materials
  • Monthly living allowance
  • Dormitory fee
  • International student health insurance
  • Visa and travel fees

Scholarship holders will be given an opportunity to do an internship at Oyu Tolgoi LLC.

Upon successful completion of the program, the scholars are expected to return to Mongolia and contribute to the development of Oyu Tolgoi LLC.

Eligibility requirements for all applicants:

  • Be a citizen of Mongolia
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.4 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Have a TOEFL and/or IELTS English language proficiency score relevant to the English language requirements of intended school of study (test results must be valid until January 2015)
  • Must be expecting Bachelor of Engineering and/or Master of Engineering
  • Must not hold other scholarships except for Oyu Tolgoi scholarship
  • Must not hold fulltime employment contract with Oyu Tolgoi LLC

For applicants for undergraduate study:

  • Be a third and/or fourth year fulltime student at an accredited Mongolian university majoring in Mining engineering, Mechanical engineering, Geology, Geosciences, Electrical engineering, Mineral processing/metallurgy engineering, Chemistry, Civil engineering, and Environmental study.

For applicants for graduate study:

  • Be a recent graduate (must have graduated within the last three years) and hold Bachelor’s degree from accredited higher education institutions majoring in Mining engineering, Mechanical engineering, Geology, Geosciences, Electrical engineering, Mineral processing/metallurgy engineering, Chemistry, and Civil engineering.

Applicants who meet the above-mentioned essential criteria are eligible to apply to the Oyu Tolgoi international scholarship program.

Application Process:

Step1.    Applicants should submit:

  • A completed application form; available at http://ot.mn/sites/default/files/documents/International_Scholarship_2014_2015_application_form.docx;
  • An official academic transcript with an official English translation;
  • Certified copy of a Bachelor’s degree diploma with transcript (with an official English translation) for graduate applicants;
  • Certified copy of an official TOEFL or IELTS exam result (test results must be valid until January 2014);
  • Certified copy of GRE exam result, if available (only for graduate applicants);
  • Two letters of recommendation from university professors and/or current employer. A reference form is available at http://ot.mn/sites/default/files/documents/Reference_Form_International_Scholarship_2014_2015.docx;
    • Statement of Academic Goalsplease attach an essay in English within 500-600 words describing your intended field of study, your career objectives and how you can contribute to the mining industry of Mongolia through the newly acquired knowledge and skills from your study overseas.

Step 2. Materials will be reviewed by the Oyu Tolgoi scholarship committee. Applicants will be assessed according to the eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview for a final selection.

Step 3.   Application materials and supporting documents of selected students will be sent to overseas universities. The universities will review applicants’ materials according their admission criteria and make an admission decision. The Oyu Tolgoi Scholarship will be offered to those applicants who are successfully accepted by the overseas university.

  1. Application deadline is October 18, 2013 (before 5:00 p.m.)
  2. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
  3. Materials submitted late or incomplete will not be considered.
