Application Instructions for Exchange Students
Please read the list of the instructions below before applying for AGU Exchange Program.
1. Eligibility
In order to apply for Aoyama Gakuin University Exchange Program, you must:
(1) be a student at one of Aoyama Gakuin University’s partner institutions;
(2) have 2.5 G.P.A. or higher (4.0 scale);
(3) have studied Japanese language for 1 year or longer and have the language ability equivalent to
N5 (or Level 4) of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)*

“The examinee has mastered the basic elements of grammar, knows around 100 Kanji and 800 words, and has the ability to engage in simple conversation and to read and write short, simple sentences. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for around 150 hours and after

2. Application Materials
When you apply for Aoyama Gakuin University Exchange Program, you must submit all the following Materials. For “Application for Certificate of Eligibility”, you need to submit it via email:
. Application for Admission*
. Letter of Recommendation
. Evaluation of Japanese Language Proficiency*
. Photocopy of Score Report of “Japanese Language Proficiency Test”(if applicable)
. Official Transcripts of home University
. Statement of Academic Objectives
. Information for Tutors*
. Certificate of Physical Condition*
. Application for Certificate of Eligibility* (Note: Please see the sample for each page when filling out this form. It MUST be submitted by email attachment to anagasaku@aoyamagakuin.jp)
. Original Official Bank Statement
. Photocopy of valid passport
. 6 ID photos taken within 6 months
. Dormitory Application (if applicable)*

3. Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
AGU will, on behalf of Exchange Students, apply to the Tokyo Immigration Bureau for the Certificate of Eligibility. As soon as the Certificate is issued, it will be sent to your institution. You will need to bring the COE to local Japanese embassy or consulate and obtain Student Visa.
4. Dormitory Information and Applying for the Dormitory
Please see “Housing Information” handbook (available online) for detailed information about the dormitory. The deadline for the dormitory application is the same as the exchange student application deadline. For students who do NOT wish to live in the dormitory, information for apartment, guest houses and homestay is also in the Housing Information handbook.
5. Timeline for Admission
April 30- Deadline for Exchange application and dormitory application
Late May- Notification of admission to all the accepted exchange
Early August- Welcome package, including the certificate of Eligibility and the detailed information about orientation week, will be sent to your institution.
