Massive Open Online Courses /MOOC/, are a modern educational approach that delivers education through the internet, overcoming barriers of time, location, finances, and other limitations. These courses are particularly beneficial for engaging learners with diverse backgrounds and technological proficiency, offering a prime example of innovative and evolving educational practices.

Leading universities worldwide are increasingly adopting MOOCs as the most effective means to provide accessible education to a broad audience. Consequently, by offering MOOCs, universities can expand their revenue streams, showcase technological advancements, introduce new teaching methodologies, explore emerging research areas, and foster collaborative work, thereby contributing to a digitally inclusive environment that promotes continuous improvement.

As a prominent institution dedicated to advancing global education standards, the National University of Mongolia has introduced its first MOOC titled ‘Archaeology of Past Nomads on the Mongolian Steppe’ on the FutureLearn international platform. This initiative aims to attract attention to Mongolia’s rich archaeological heritage, specifically focusing on the subject of nomadic archaeology. Notably, this marks the first time that Mongolia’s leading universities have ventured into offering MOOCs on international platforms, highlighting their commitment to sharing their expertise and resources with a global audience.

Dr. B.Jargalan, a professor from the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at NUM, has worked as an author of this course. The course has been deployed on the Future Learn platform, the third largest platform with 20 million users from 195 countries. Users can access this online course for a fee of $39.99 per month.
