TOPICS: “COLLABORATING TOWARDS A NET ZERO FUTURE:
EXPLORING THE PARTNERSHIP POTENTIAL BETWEEN UNIVERSITIES AND RIO TINTO
IN ACHIEVING CARBON NEUTRALITY”
Dan is the Deputy Group Chief scientist at Rio Tinto. In this role, he is building the capability needed to fully leverage science, technology, and innovation to deliver the materials the world needs to drive the energy transition and to do this in the most sustainable way possible.
Prior to Rio Tinto, Dan held senior leadership roles across the energy industry, including vice president of engineering British Petroleum. Dan also established and led the emerging and disruptive technology unit at BP and led the team that created the company’s net zero carbon ambition and strategy in 2020. Outside of the energy industry, Dan has been on the board of directors for multiple companies, and Non-Executive Director on the Ocean Infinity Group Board. Prior to joining the industry, Dan pursued post-doctoral research in fluid and structural dynamics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and held a lectureship in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. Dan is a chartered mechanical engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. held a lectureship in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford.
