Akita International University exchange program offers Japan Studies courses, Japanese Language courses, Basic Education courses, the Global Business Program, the Global Studies Program. Since all courses are taught in English, international students are welcome to take any course in our entire curriculum (except ENG courses and program seminars designed for degree-seeking students).
Eligiblilty to Apply
Before you apply, please know that all applicants who wish to study at Akita International University for one or two semesters, starting in the Fall Semester 2013, as exchange/non degree-seeking students, must meet the following requirements:
Enrollment Status
Applicants must be enrolled at their home university / college both at the time of application and during their stay at Akita International University, and have completed at least two semesters of studies at the time of application.
GPA
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.50 or higher.
English Proficiency
Applicants whose first language is not English must have a TOEFL score of 500 (PBT) or higher, IELTS 5.0 or above, 61 or above in the iBT, or 630 or above in TOEIC.

Documents listed below must reach AIU by no later than April 1, 2013. Applications which fail to reach us by April 1, 2013, will not be accepted. Also, we will not process the application if there are any required documents missing.
- Official Academic Transcript from Home University
- Personal Statement of Purpose (300 – 500 words)
- International Student Reference Form (2 pages each) You can download the form here.・ If you are applying as an exchange student from one of our partner universities,submit ONE International Student Reference Form.
- Proof of English Proficiency (if applicable)

Two ID Photos (Photos must be passport-size (3 cm x 4 cm) and clearly show your head and shoulders)
