“UB IMPULSE-9: EXPERT TALKS ON QUALITY GROWTH” FEATURED PROFESSOR DR. MICHAEL FRESE

For the 9th edition of “UB Impulse: Expert talks on Quality Growth,” the School of International Relations and Public Administration (SIRPA), the National University of Mongolia (NUM) welcomed Prof. Dr. Michael Frese in cooperation with the Integrated Mineral Resource Initiative of the GIZ. This public lecture and discussion on the topic of “Entrepreneurship and how to stimulate it among the youth” was held on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016, from 14:00 until 17:00 at the Lecture Hall of 6th floor of NUM Building V. Prof. Dr. Michael Frese is internationally renowned for his applied research on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship trainings in several African countries. Prof. Dr. Michael Frese holds a joint appointment at the National University of Singapore Business School and Leuphana (University of Lueneburg, Germany). He has published more than 200 articles in such journals as Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Journal of Business Venturing and cultural issues.

The event started with inaugural remarks by Dr. Dr. h. c. Stefan Hanselmann, Director of GIZ IMRI and Prof. Dr. Narantuya Ch, Vice Director of NUM. The subsequent lecture given by Prof. Dr. Michael Frese  highlighted the importance of personal initiative and active mindset for entrepreneurial success. He also introduced and explained in details about his action-characteristics-model of entrepreneurship. Prof. Dr. Michael Frese advised that dreaming of making money is not realistic goal instead people should dream about something they can do or make.

The talk was followed by an open discussion session, hosted by well-known economist and columnist Jargalsaikan D (DeFacto) who raised interesting questions about entrepreneurship. The audience of UB Impulse-9 were around 200 people consisted of Professor and teachers of the Schools of NUM, representatives from KonradAdenauer-Stiftung Mongolia, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Asia Foundation, United Nations offices in Mongolia, San Institute, Law Enforcement University, Institute of International Economics and Business, Institute of Finance and Economics, Otgontenger university, Mongolian University of Science and Technology, Mongolian International University, Mongolian National university of Medical Sciences, General Intelligence Agency of Mongolia, British school of Mongolia, the representatives from international organizations, private entities, and non-government organizations.

The audience of the event asked various questions especially on the topic of personal initiative, the importance of education in entrepreneurial success, the correlation between competitiveness and entrepreneurial mindset, and the connection between happiness and entrepreneurial success.

The closing remarks of the event were addressed by Prof. Dr. Battulga S, Director of SIRPA and Dr. Dr. h. c. Stefan Hanselmann, Director of GIZ IMRI.
