CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT FOR TRANSFORMATION”

THE ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION”

The sixth international conference “NUM Leadership Conference – Capacity development for transformation” under the topic of “Sustainable Development in Public Administration” will be held at the Shangri-La Ballroom on October 18th 2017. The Conference is organised annually by the Department for Public Administration, NUM, with the support of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ). The event will be co-hosted by the Civil Service Council of Mongolia, the Institute of Local Sustainable Development, the Speyer Research Institute of Germany, Speyer University of Germany, the National Development Agency of Mongolia, and the University of Alaska, Anchorage, USA.

The very first international conference organised by the Public Administration Department, NUM, under the support of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) was held in 2012 focusing on the topic of “Social Economic Development – State Administration Reform”. Since 2012, four consecutive annual conferences have been held; these being, “Economic Crisis-The Role of the State” in 2013, “Big Government to Smart Government” in 2014, “The Future of Public Service Employment and Human Resource Development of the Government” in 2015, and “The Modern Trends of Public Administration” in 2016. This year the conference will be held for the sixth time and will address the topic of “Sustainable Development in Public Administration”.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jan Ziekow, Director of the German Research Institute for Public Administration, Speyer, Germany, will attend the conference. Other invited participants include: Dr. Samdan Tsedendamba, Civil Service Council of Mongolia; Dr. Dr. h.c. Stefan Hanselmann, Director of the Integrated Mineral Resource Initiative (IMRI), GIZ; Crispian Tan, Director University Alliances Asia Pacific Japan, SAP Asia Singapore; Dr. Eunju Kim, Korean Institute of Public Administration, Seoul, Republic of Korea (TBC); Prof. Dr. John Duffy, School of Business and Public Administration, University of Alaska, Anchorage, USA; and Prof. Dr. Burmaa Natsag, Head of DPA, School of International Relations and Public Administration, NUM. In addition, there are to be two plenary discussions on Sustainable Development in Public Administration that will be distinguished in two work streams under the topics of “Can the public sector lead towards sustainability”, and “Sustainability Performance of the Public Sector-Developing a coherent system for implementation”.

We hope that the NUM Leadership Conference will be an interesting platform for topics of public administration and capacity development as well as serve to enable a stimulating exchange among conference participants and our invited speakers.
