The Mongolia Model United Nations 2026 (MMUN 2026) conference, jointly organized by the MMUN Club and the Department of International Relations, School of Political Science, International Relations and Public Administration of the National University of Mongolia (NUM-SPSIRPA), successfully concluded on October 25, 2026.

This year’s conference marked two significant historical milestones: the 65th anniversary of Mongolia’s UN membership and the 55th anniversary of the restoration of China’s lawful seat in the United Nations.

Held under the inspiring theme “Strengthening Multilateralism for Peace and Sustainable Development,” the conference provided a dynamic platform for youth to tackle pressing global challenges through dialogue and diplomacy. The event brought together 80 outstanding delegates, including students from major universities such as NUM, MUST, and UFE, as well as high school students, some of whom traveled all the way from Uvurkhangai province to participate.

The conference opened on October 24 at NUM-SPSIRPA, with welcoming remarks delivered by Senior Lecturer and MMUN co-founder Oyunsuren Damdinsuren, who reflected on the history and development of Model UN in Mongolia.

Dr. Battogtokh Javzandolgor initiated Model UN at the National University of Mongolia in 2005, after completing her doctoral studies at MGIMO University in Moscow. Ms. Oyunsuren joined the initiative in 2006, helping to develop what would become a longstanding tradition of experiential learning in diplomacy and international relations.

What began as a university-based student initiative more than two decades ago has gradually developed into a national event, bringing together students from different universities and high schools across Mongolia.

A highlight of the second day was the participation of Mr. Cao Li, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mongolia. He shared insights into China’s philosophy of multilateral diplomacy and engaged with delegates in an interactive Q&A session,  inspiring the delegates to become true envoys of peace and friendship.

Throughout the conference, delegates benefited from the advice and encouragement of distinguished guests and academic representatives, including:

  • Otgonbaatar Byambaa, Deputy Director of the Department of Multilateral Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia;
  • Oyunaa Lkhagvasuren, Assistant Representative of UNFPA Mongolia;
  • Munkh-Ulzii Batmunkh, Head of the Department of International Relations, NUM-SPSIRPA;
  • Oyunsuren Damdinsuren, Senior Lecturer, NUM-SPSIRPA;
  • Baasankhuu Ganbaatar, Senior Lecturer, NUM-SPSIRPA;
  • Narankhishig Altankhuyag, President of the MMUN Club.
