The Altan Gadas or “Order of the Polar Star” medal was presented to Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Stefan Hanselmann on 14th September 2022 at the Parliament House of Mongolia. He received the medal which is the highest civilian award to foreign citizens and presented by pursuance of presidential decree, in 2020 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Mongolia’s social and economic development.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Stefan Hanselmann, who also received an Honorary Doctorate from National University of Mongolia, has made invaluable contributions to the development of the Public Administration Department, School of International Relations and Public Administration, National University of Mongolia since the establishment of the department in 2011. In his capacity as director of the Integrated Mineral Resource Initiative (IMRI) Program, implemented by Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) he co-organized from 2012 to 2018 the annual NUM Leadership International Conference, and initiated the “UB-Impulse: Expert talk on Quality Growth” public lecture series. Furthermore, he has been working as a visiting professor teaching undergraduate and graduate courses such as global governance, corporate social responsibility in the public sector, and ethics of public servants. In 2018, he moved to Cambodia to become the director of the GIZ program Improved Competitiveness of National Enterprises (ICONE) based in Siem Reap.
Several professors, students, alumni of the Public Administration Department, SIRPA, NUM and former colleagues from GIZ were present at the ceremony.
